Academee Update May 2008
The Future of Leadership Development
David Dotlich and Jim Noel of Oliver Wyman's Delta Executive Learning Center are prominent global leadership experts. In a new article on The Future of Leadership Development, they look at future leadership learning trends. Academee became part of Oliver Wyman's European learning business in April 2008, working alongside our colleagues in the Executive Learning Center (ELC). ELC provides top-tier executive education that the world's largest corporations can use as a strategic lever with their senior executives. Academee extends this leadership development and learning capability deeper into organisations. This fascinating article looks at how leadership development is set to change. Leadership learning will become increasingly embedded in the world of work and individuals must be in charge of their own development. There are so many demands on individuals in the workplace that leadership development needs to be an integral part of working life. It also needs to keep up with the ever-changing demands of the workplace. Opportunities will become more widely available across organisations as more people are identified as leaders and offered leadership responsibilities and prospects. Taking the Pathway to Learning
Sophisticated learning management services should offer employees the chance to create their own learning paths. In a recent feature in Training and Coaching Today, Academee consultant David Kesby comments on the increasing trend for creating pathways that help individuals identify what skills, competencies and learning they need to progress to the next stage of their career. "All of this comes on the back of the move to self-managed learning and the idea that people will continuously drive their self-development," says David. Academee has created sophisticated online learning pathways for several the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and also for global IT services company Fujitsu Services. The innovative Fujitsu Services Career Mapping Tool is profiled in the feature. This interactive online application presents career planning information in an easily understood, accessible way and gives users control over their career paths. |
Top Tips for your Annual Equality and Diversity Report
An Annual Diversity and Equality Report is now a legal requirement for all publicly-funded organisations. However, such reports are far more than a legal chore – they should be strategic and operational tools that no organisation, public or private, can afford to be without. In a recent PersonnelZone article, Academee diversity expert David Deegan explains why the production of an Annual Equality and Diversity Report can generate commitment, open and constructive dialogue and actions which will reap rewards for years to come. The article highlights the example of the first such report ever produced by the University for Industry (Ufi), supported by Academee. Ufi wanted a report that would be interesting and engaging to both internal and external audiences and they worked with their team of diversity champions to gather information on diversity improvements taking place as well as including personal statements to bring the report to life. David goes on to offer tips to create an effective report of your own. |
Your Invitation to The Leadership Programme
The Leadership Programme is a series of complimentary learning events jointly run by Academee and the Executive Learning Center (ELC), taking place throughout 2008. We'd like to invite you to join our learning experts for two seminars taking place in October and November. Globalisation brings with it fresh business challenges, not least delivering against a global agenda, business growth in difficult global economic conditions and the constant change required to realign global structures and policies. In response to these challenges Academee and ELC are running a globalisation seminar on 22nd October. The full agenda includes a session on ‘Leading in Turbulent Times', client case studies, benchmarking opportunities plus a chance to meet one of the world's leading experts on globalisation, Dr Stephen H Rhinesmith, who will be looking at globalisation in the context of leadership development. Another issue facing clients is talent retention and the feeding of the leadership pipeline. Co-author of The Leadership Pipeline, Jim Noel, will be linking into the November session to provide his perspective on the key transitions that help a leader develop. To register for these stimulating, interactive events, please go to http://www.academee.com/leadership-programme. Three Peaks Challenge
On Friday 4 July 2008, an intrepid team of eight from Academee and the Executive Learning Center (ELC), set off on the Three Peaks Challenge, attempting to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales within a 24 hour period. After lots of rain, pain, injury and sleeplessness, the intrepid eight completed their challenge on a sunny Sunday morning. The high point was reaching the coffee shop at the foot of Snowdon, having conquered all three peaks. As well as driving hundreds of miles, the team had completed 16 hours of walking and climbed some 3,300 metres. "It was worth the training, running half marathons and hill walking in preparation," said head of finance, Stephen Sanders. The entire team felt a tremendous sense of achievement. Well done to Academee's inspirational adventurers! |
