Academee Wins North of England Business Excellence Award
Academee proved that we offer one of the best working environments in the UK by scooping a special award for 'People and People Results' at the North of England Business Excellence Awards on 7 November 2006. The awards provide public recognition to organisations demonstrating a high level of commitment to the concepts of excellence.
Earlier this year, Academee was named the 32nd best place to work in the UK in the Financial Times 2006 'Best Workplaces' list.
Seventeen high-performing organisations from throughout the North (North West, North East, Yorkshire and Humberside) were selected as finalists in these prestigious awards. For the second year running, Academee was also shortlisted for business excellence in the 'Private Sector under 250 employees' category.
All those shortlisted were required to place their organisation under a 'business microscope' and undergo a rigorous assessment against the European Excellence Model over a number of months by a team of independent, specially trained assessors.
The assessor team noted that, “Academee's commitment to continual improvement and to the achievement of excellent results is demonstrated by the amount of improvement activity being undertaken. Their stated overall aim over the past few years has been to move the company from an entrepreneurial approach to a more process driven style while still retaining the passion and individual commitment which has characterised past successes. Academee can be proud of the progress achieved in their journey towards excellence.”
The awards use the European Excellence Model as a framework for assessment. As part of the rigorous assessment process, a cross-section of Academee people completed a comprehensive workbook, provided extensive evidence of excellence within the organisation and received a three day site visit from a team of assessors.
For Academee, taking part in the assessment process has been a wonderful opportunity. A real benefit is that we now have a structured improvement plan identifying areas for improvement as well as to highlighting areas of excellence. Winning a prestigious North of England Business Excellence Award is an additional bonus, and something we are very proud of.
